YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

EMERGING LEADERS

The Emerging Leaders Program equips youth with the skills and knowledge needed to be college- and career-ready while fostering leadership qualities and empowering them to become change-makers. Through critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, planning, and social interaction, participants are encouraged to take on challenges and develop as future leaders. The program is open to middle and high school students across Broward County, regardless of income or academic background.

Ignite Empowerment Community Center will collaborate with several Broward County middle and high schools to identify and recruit promising young leaders for the program. Workshops are held on the third Saturday of each month, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The program consists of the following key components:

  1. Curriculum – Participants are grouped by grade level. 8th to 10th graders will focus on character development and career exploration, while 11th and 12th graders will concentrate on job readiness, college preparation, and post-secondary planning.

  2. Career Exposure – All students will engage in activities that provide insight into various careers, including career research, site visits, and guest speakers, offering a deeper understanding of potential career paths from both an educational and professional standpoint.

  3. Character Building – Workshops will focus on life skills such as impromptu speaking, writing, effective communication, and other personal development tools designed to build confidence and leadership.

  4. College Readiness – For 11th and 12th graders, specialized workshops will cover financial literacy, FAFSA applications, SAT/ACT preparation, college application deadlines, scholarship opportunities, and other financial aid resources to ensure students are fully prepared for higher education.

  5. College Tours – A tour of potential colleges will be organized, giving students the opportunity to explore various campuses and decide which institutions might be the right fit for their future goals.

  6. Community Service – Future leaders will also participate in volunteer opportunities with local organizations to learn the value of giving back and making a positive impact on their communities.

This holistic program aims to develop well-rounded individuals who are ready to take on the challenges of higher education and the workforce, all while making meaningful contributions to society.
